This season we shall be celebrating the fifteenth birthday of Pulcinella!

After months of interruption, we are back on stage again at last – live and before an audience – for the programme of our double album devoted to Vivaldi and recorded with the complicity of singers Delphine Galou and Lucile Richardot.

This summer 2020 has enabled us to clarify our environmental commitments and establish ecologically responsible guidelines, supported and shared by the artists’ collective, and thus create a participative performance, Songes, presented outdoors in parks and squares to audiences in the Paris region.

In a group ranging from a trio to an orchestral ensemble, always in a chamber spirit, we welcome outstanding artists of international renown, but also young professionals who are among the finest musicians of the new generation.

With the Pulcinella Orchestra, a full-blown chamber orchestra, we continue our fruitful adventure, exploring the concerted cello repertoire up to and including the early Romantics. Since our first recording of Vivaldi sonatas, eight albums on the Aparté label have charted our career, representing as many different aspects of our research into sources, phrasing and timbre: Vivaldi, Boccherini (three volumes), J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach (two volumes), and in 2020 Vivaldi again, this time with concertos.

In the short time since its release, this double album has had over 1,400,000 streams, and has received excellent reviews from the international press.

While Philippe Hersant’s new work, Rondes de nuit, composed in homage to Boccherini, is to be released at the end of 2020, we commissioned Alexandros Markeas to create a cantata inspired by Aristophanes, Intrépides; it was premièred at the beginning of the year, in a programme also evoking heroines of works by Handel.

We hope to be able carry through our projects, interrupted by Covid, with the ensembles Vox Luminis (conductor Lionel Meunier) and Marguerite Louise (conductor Gaëtan Jarry), which should be joining Pulcinella for new artistic collaborations this season.

While being citizens of the world, we are also actively committed to the Île-de-France region and recently in Rhônes-Alpes, where we are strengthening our educational and social actions, and increasing our initiatives, in schools of course, but also in hospitals and prisons, where people are unable to travel to attend performances.

Each day we thus give ourselves the means to live by our creed: to use our passion for music and art to make them a common good, indispensable to all.

Gailliard brings a joyous and incisively idiomatic grace to these performances. What she may lack in the absolute fluency and charisma of Christophe Coin is more than made up for in this exciting programme and the dynamism of her Pulcinella Orchestra.
